The agenda for the Regular Meeting of Council on Monday, March 21 at 7:00 pm has been posted at northsaanich.ca/council-meetings.
North Saanich Council will discuss the Official Community Plan (OCP) review at this meeting.
This is a follow up from the Special Meeting of Council on February 14, at which Council directed the project team to move forward with the complete OCP review, focusing on all six themes: agriculture and local food systems, marine and land-based natural environments, climate action, healthy communities, jobs and the local economy, and housing and affordability. They also gave the project team direction on the approach for the next phase of public engagement.
On February 14, Council also directed the project team to initiate a high-level review of the current OCP policy language, outlining what could be changed, stay the same, be added, or removed.
Additionally, Council directed staff to include meetings with the OCP Advisory Working Group (AWG), District Commissions, community associations, and other representative residents as key components of engagement. Council directed staff to restructure the in-person engagement as a community-focused process that would take place from May to June.
Council directed staff to contemplate the feasibility of drafting the OCP as Phase 4 from July to September 2022 and to report back to Council with the draft OCP in late September.
In response to this direction, on March 21 the project team will present Council with a high-level work plan for Phase 3, an engagement and communications plan for Phase 3, and an associated budget for these tasks.
Based on the Provincial Health Officer’s most recent direction, there are no pandemic-related restrictions to the number of people allowed in person at Council meetings. Please note that the meeting agenda identifies various other ways you can participate at this meeting (and other Council meetings).
