District Announces Expansion of IAFF Local 5509 to Include Paid On Call Firefighters

The District of North Saanich is pleased to announce the expansion of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 5509 to formally include Paid On Call (POC) firefighters.

This important development marks a new chapter in the District’s continued commitment to providing a unified, professional fire service that meets the growing needs of our community.

The District looks forward to working with IAFF Local 5509 to establish a collective agreement that supports a safe, professional, and responsive fire service. This partnership ensures that all firefighters—career and Paid On Call—are supported in their roles and equipped to serve the residents of North Saanich effectively.
