Cut costs, not comfort: Central and North Saanich team up to help residents reduce home energy use
Free event helps residents save energy at home, from DIY to big upgrades
Central Saanich and North Saanich are hosting a free workshop to share expert advice for saving money and energy at home. Whether they rent or own, residents are invited to learn about do-it-yourself fixes and big upgrades like solar.
On Saturday, March 7, residents can attend the event from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Central Saanich Cultural Centre, 1209 Clarke Road, in Brentwood Bay. This free workshop includes refreshments, practical ideas and Q&A facilitated by Shawn Sales, a registered Energy Advisor.
“Small changes can have a big impact on saving energy and help lower our bills,” said Central Saanich Mayor Ryan Windsor. “We can make our homes more comfortable and climate-friendly—but it can be hard to know where to begin.”
For residents, this is an opportunity to ask an expert if they are curious, want ideas to get started, or are already planning improvements like solar panels, insulation or a heat pump. Participants will learn ways to save money on project costs and how to use an EnerGuide home evaluation to prioritize upgrades.
This is the second time Central Saanich and North Saanich have teamed up to help residents save energy while boosting comfort at home. The first event, in November of last year, was a success and the two municipalities are recreating it for those who missed out.
“North Saanich residents have an important role to play in building a more energy-efficient community,” said North Saanich Mayor Peter Jones. “This workshop is a great opportunity to get involved, ask questions and learn practical ways to improve comfort and reduce energy use at home.”
The workshop will also share programs, like Home Energy Navigator, that are funded by the municipalities. Home Energy Navigator offers free support to residents as they plan upgrades, find rebates, compare contractors and complete home retrofit projects.
How to register: Limited space! Residents can call 250.652.4444 (ext. 2224) or register at CSaanich.ca/Mar7Workshop.
