North Saanich Councillor Brett Smyth Resigns

Councillor Brett Smyth has submitted a letter to the District of North Saanich’s Corporate Officer, stating that he is resigning from his position as Councillor, effective immediately. Councillor Smyth was first elected to Council for the 2018-2022 term and was successful in being elected for a second term at the General Local Election held in October 2022.

The District thanks Councillor Smyth for his years of dedicated service to this community. In his time with the District, Councillor Smyth represented the District on a number of commissions, boards, and councils on the Peninsula, including ArtSea Community Arts Council and the Memorial Park Society.

Under the Community Charter, a by-election is required to fill a vacancy that occurs due to the resignation of an elected official between general local elections. Details on a by-election will be made available soon.
