Overnight Traffic Impacts on West Saanich Road – May 11-12

The District of North Saanich would like to advise residents that overnight construction work will take place on West Saanich Road between Laurel Road and Tatlow Road beginning Monday, May 11 and continuing into the morning of Tuesday, May 12.

The work involves the installation of valves on the Capital Regional District (CRD) watermain to support a future bypass connection required for the upcoming Chalet Creek culvert replacement project later this summer.

During this work, the CRD watermain supplying the Cloake Hill Reservoir will be temporarily shut down from 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11 until approximately 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12.

What residents can expect

Monday, May 11 – beginning at 7:00 a.m. until approximately 2:00–3:00 p.m.

  • Single-lane alternating traffic will be in effect while crews work in the southbound lane to expose the CRD watermain and prepare the site for construction.

Monday, May 11 at 6:00 p.m. through Tuesday, May 12 at 6:00 a.m.

  • Single-lane alternating traffic will remain in effect overnight while crews:
    • shut down and drain the CRD watermain,
    • complete dechlorination procedures to Chalet Creek,
    • install new valves,
    • refill the watermain, and
    • return the system to service.

Water service information

Residential water service impacts are not anticipated. The watermain being shut down is used solely to supply the Cloake Hill Reservoir and does not provide direct service connections to homes.

Prior to the shutdown, the CRD reservoir will be filled to maximum capacity and monitored throughout the process to ensure sufficient water supply and fire flow capacity remain available for north-end residents.

The District thanks residents and motorists for their patience and understanding while this important infrastructure work is completed.
