Proclamation for Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Mayor Peter Jones has signed a proclamation declaring May 2025 to be Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness Month in North Saanich!

May this month be a reminder about the importance of sun safety. Over-exposure to UV radiation is one of the major causes of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers, with 1 in 6 Canadians born in the 90s predicted to get skin cancer in their lifetimes!

The Save Your Skin Foundation is dedicated to the fight against many types of cancer through nationwide education, advocacy, and awareness initiatives.
