The District of North Saanich is joining the District of Saanich and other municipalities in the Capital Region in a 3-year pilot project to explore reducing the speed limit on residential streets. This project would see the speed limit on roads without a yellow line reduced to 40 km/h. This would largely apply to roads that have lower traffic volumes and would not affect school zones, playground zones or other existing speed zones.
North Saanich is working with the other municipalities to submit an application to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI). If the application for the project is successful, the pilot would launch in Summer/Fall 2021.
