Fireworks Bylaw Update – June 2025
To better protect sensitive ecosystems and wildlife, and to align with regional best practices, the District of North Saanich has updated its Fireworks Regulation Bylaw.
What’s Changed:
Fireworks are now prohibited within and 200 metres outside of designated Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESAs), including:
- Chalet Creek
- Tsehum (Shoal) Harbour
- Roberts Bay
- Tseycum Creek
- Ten-Ten Creek
- Coals Bay
- ḰELSET (Reay Creek)
All family fireworks displays require a permit issued by the District. Permits will only be approved for use in specific permitted locations and under safe conditions.
Why This Matters:
- These changes align North Saanich’s bylaw with the Town of Sidney.
- They help protect local wildlife and ecosystems, especially during bird nesting season.
- They support the District’s strategic goal of protecting the natural environment.
