Water Main Replacement

Phase 3: The District began replacing the aging water main on Lands End Road and Chalet Road in 2020. The new water mains, made of PVC plastic piping, have an 80-year life expectancy. This phase launched in April of 2020 and is expected to continue until September 2020. It will cost approximately $1 million. Triahn Enterprises (2018) Ltd. is the lead contractor and McElhanney Ltd will provide project oversight.

Construction started near 488 Lands End Road (where the previous phase ended in 2018) and will continue southerly to 11307 Chalet Road.

Future work

Replacement of the aging and undersized water main at Curteis Point is anticipated to begin later in 2020.

Background

In 2016, Kerr Wood Leidal Consulting Engineers completed the Water System Master Plan. This long-term asset management plan for the District’s water system recommends key upgrades to address capacity and reliability for fire protection and residential and commercial use.

The first phase of the project began in 2017 at the intersection of West Saanich and Lands End Road and proceeded westerly to the intersection of Lands End Road and Kitwanga Place (705m).

The second phase of the project began in 2018 and saw the replacement of the water mains from Lands End Road and Kitwanga Place to 478 Lands End Road (700m).
