Pauquachin First Nation Shoreline Stabilization Project Underway at Coles Bay

The District of North Saanich wishes to advise residents that the BOḰEĆEN (Pauquachin) First Nation has begun undertaking shoreline stabilization work along the shoreline between the CRD park stairs and the Pauquachin boat launch. Construction began Sunday, August 16, and is expected to continue for approximately 6 to 8 weeks, with work alternating between early morning and daytime work (according to tidal conditions).

Location

The work area extends from the CRD park stairs south to the Pauquachin boat launch.

Access Restrictions

For public safety during construction:

• The CRD park stairs will be closed and marked with caution tape.
• The shoreline within the construction area will be closed to public access.

Construction Activity

Construction machinery and equipment will be operating within the work zone. Members of the public are asked to remain outside the construction area.

Project Overview

This project will stabilize and rebuild the failing shoreline bank through the construction of a rock retaining wall. In addition, planters will be installed on the upper portions of the bank to support the growing of traditional food plants by the Pauquachin First Nation.

The District of North Saanich appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation while this important work is completed.
