Saanich Peninsula Alert
North Saanich, Sidney, and Central Saanich municipalities have joined together to provide public safety alerts to the residents and visitors of the Saanich Peninsula. The system is called Saanich Peninsula Alert and is designed to deliver critical and potentially life-saving alerts to anyone who has registered. Alerts are sent for events such as earthquakes, tsunami alerts, evacuation notices, or other safety threats. There is no sign up fee for Saanich Peninsula Alert.
As of March 25, 2021, Saanich Peninsula Alert will have a new provider offering better service to residents, visitors, and stakeholders of the Saanich Peninsula. Existing subscribers must re-register to continue to receive alerts.
The update allows users to set their notifications to include multiple areas within and outside of their municipality. For example, someone residing in North Saanich may work in Central Saanich and have elderly parents living in Sidney. With the new system, the user can set up notifications for all three areas, or more if they choose.
Currently Registered for Saanich Peninsula Alert?
The upgrade will require current subscribers to login to the new system and register for alerts with an expanded list of options. If you do not re-register before March 25, 2021, you will not receive alerts.
Existing subscribers will receive a notification from the system prompting them to login and update their details and preferred alerts. Subscribers who registered using only a landline will receive a phone call.
