Greek Independence Day Proclamation

In recognition of the profound historical significance and cultural heritage of the Greek Nation, Acting Mayor Sanjiv Shrivastava has signed a proclamation declaring that the District acknowledges Greek Independence Day on March 25, 2024.

With a legacy spanning four thousand years, the Greek Nation has left an indelible mark on the progress of humanity. From the invention of philosophy and drama to the introduction of democracy, their contributions have been pivotal in shaping civilizations. Moreover, their role as a communication bridge between East and West has further enriched global understanding and exchange.

On this occasion, the Greeks of Vancouver Island are set to commemorate the 203rd Anniversary of Greek Independence Day, marking the historic declaration of freedom on March 25, 1821.
