Proclamation for Purple Day (epilepsy awareness)
Mayor Peter Jones has signed a proclamation declaring acknowledgment of Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness on March 26, 2024. Purple Day was created to increase the public’s understanding of this brain disorder and to eliminate the fear and stigma surrounding it.
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder of the central nervous system, specifically of the brain, and is characterized by the tendency to have recurrent seizures. It is estimated that about 260,000 Canadians have epilepsy.
