District of North Saanich Launches Budget 2022 Survey

The District of North Saanich invites residents to complete a survey about the 2022 District budget at connectnorthsaanich.ca/2022-budget.

Community input from the survey will inform deliberations by the District of North Saanich Council in Spring, 2022, when they consider the 2022-2026 operating and capital budgets.

Public feedback from the survey, along with strategic priorities and operational plans, helps inform the composition of the annual budget.

The District has traditionally provided only those services which are most important to the community and supplemented revenues from user fees and charges to lessen the burden on the limited property tax base. As a result, the District levies lower property taxes than most other municipalities in the region.

The survey allows the District and Council to listen to North Saanich residents about their priorities, asking questions like: is the District funding its parks adequately? Do residents think the funding level for sustainability and climate action initiatives is appropriate? How satisfied are residents with the level of communication from the District?

The survey, which opened today and closes on February 7, 2022, is available at connectnorthsaanich.ca/2022-budget. Completing the survey takes approximately 15 minutes.

Paper copies of the survey are also available at the Municipal Hall.

The Budget 2022 project page also includes significant background information for the public, including key dates, the steps required to build a budget, the budgeting cycle, previous financial plans (including municipal operating and capital expenditures, and tax rates), and the role of Canada-B.C. Safe Restart funds in addressing the impacts of COVID-19.

Budget survey results will be reported to the Budget Committee on February 24, 2022, and will be shared with the public in the form of an engagement summary on the project page and through social media. The Budget Committee will also convene on March 10, 2022 to discuss the budget.
