District of North Saanich Hires Tim Tanton as New Chief Administrative Officer
North Saanich Council is pleased to announce the selection of Tim Tanton as the new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the District of North Saanich.
“On behalf of Council and staff I would like to welcome Tim Tanton to the District of North Saanich. We are excited and optimistic as we embark on this important organizational transition” said Mayor Geoff Orr, “and wish the very best to our retiring CAO, Dr. Rob Buchan.”
The selection of Mr. Tanton follows a 5-month recruitment process that was initiated by the previous Council, finalized by the current Council, and supported throughout by our search Consultant James R Craven and Associates. There were more than 80 applicants for the position, with interest coming from across Canada in addition to many qualified and impressive candidates from the Capital Region.
Council worked with the consultant to arrive at a short list and ultimately interviewed 5 candidates.
“Council was very impressed with the high caliber of candidates,” said Mayor Orr. “We’re confident that Tim is the right choice for this critical position and brings with him considerable skill, passion and familiarity with North Saanich and the Saanich Peninsula.”
Tanton has 20 years of municipal and regional experience in the Capital Region. He previously held the position of Director of Infrastructure Services in North Saanich before shifting to Integrated Water Services at the Capital Regional District and is currently the Director of Development Services, Engineering, Parks and Works for the Town of Sidney. He is a professional engineer and also holds a Masters degree in public administration.
Tanton is expected to start in his new position on Monday January 7, 2019.
