Official Community Plan Review – Outcomes from February 7 Meeting

At the Monday, February 7 Regular Meeting of Council, Council reconsidered the motion from the January 31 Special Meeting of Council regarding the Official Community Plan (OCP) review.

At the January 31 meeting, Council had directed staff to draft the OCP, focusing solely on five themes: agriculture and local food systems, marine and land based natural environments, climate action, healthy communities, and jobs and the local economy. Engagement on the topic of housing and affordability would not take place at this time. The draft OCP (excluding housing and affordability) was to be presented to Council by July 2022.

However, at the Monday, February 7 Regular Meeting of Council, Mayor and Council voted on a motion to reconsider this resolution; the motion was carried. Council decided to not direct staff to draft an OCP, focusing solely on the five themes, for presentation to Council by July 2022.

At the upcoming February 14 Special Meeting of Council, Council will discuss the next steps for the OCP review, including a notice of motion from Councillor Pearson.

Due to the highly transmissible Omicron variant of COVID-19 and out of an abundance of caution, the District has reduced the number of people allowed in person at Council Meetings: currently, six members of the public can attend in person. Please note that the meeting agenda identifies various other ways you can participate at this meeting (and other Council meetings).
