Planning & Community Services
The Planning and Community Services department provides advice and services related to the regulation and administration of development activity and community growth. In addition to policy review and development, key department activity includes development application processing, building permits, business licensing, and bylaw enforcement. Subdivision application processing is a joint function between Planning and Community Services and Infrastructure Services. The Approving Officer role rests in Planning and Community Services.
Community Planning combines the functions of current planning and long-range policy planning to bring a comprehensive approach to addressing issues of community growth and sustainability.
Planning staff:
- Review and make recommendations to Council regarding Official Community Plan amendments, Zoning Bylaw amendments and Development Variance Permit applications
- Provide professional advice and information to help ensure that land use and development in the District is in keeping with approved bylaws and policies
- Undertake planning studies and long-range planning initiatives
- Work collaboratively with community groups, businesses, government agencies and other stakeholder groups to further the District’s Planning initiatives
