Water Main Replacement

Our priority is to provide residents with safe, clean drinking water. Replacing old water mains with new ones, with an 80-year life expectancy, will ensure residents have access to a higher standard of potable water now, and for generations to come.

Current work

We are nearing the end of Phase 5 of the 2022 Water Main Renewal Project. Residents on Kalitan Rd., Meldram Dr., Cove Cr., and Birch Rd. are now serviced with water from a new PVC water main. Our Contractors are experiencing delays on Downey Rd., works are scheduled to be complete by mid to late July 2023.

NOTE: Due to quality control delays, this project has been extended from mid-June to mid-July.

Background

In 2016, Kerr Wood Leidal Consulting Engineers completed the Water System Master Plan. This long-term asset management plan for the District’s water system recommends key upgrades to address capacity and reliability for fire protection and residential and commercial use.

The first phase of the project began in 2017 at the intersection of West Saanich and Lands End Road and proceeded westerly to the intersection of Lands End Road and Kitwanga Place (705m).

The second phase of the project began in 2018 and saw the replacement of the water mains from Lands End Road and Kitwanga Place to 478 Lands End Road (700m).

The third phase of the project began in 2020 and saw the replacement of the aging water mains from 478 Lands End Road to 11307 Chalet Road (1000m). The District completed Phase 3 in November 2020.

Phase 4 work to replace the aging and undersized water main from 2126 Curteis Road to 10840 Inwood Road was completed on time and within budget December 2021.
