Forest Park Drive safety improvements begin July 18

Starting on Monday, July 18, the District of North Saanich will be making improvements to traffic and pedestrian safety along Forest Park Drive, adjacent to ḰELSET Elementary School.

Construction will be complete by September 2, 2022, ready for the start of the school year.

During construction, residents can expect lane restrictions and traffic delays on Forest Park Drive along the frontage of ḰELSET Elementary School, between Mistvale Place and East Saanich Road.

The intention of these summertime improvements is to calm traffic, improve pedestrian safety, and change parking during high-traffic times at the school.

During drop-off and pick-up times at ḰELSET Elementary School, parking spaces closest to the school will be limited to 5-minute parking.

For longer stays, drivers should park at the unrestricted or 2-hour areas elsewhere on the street. Signs will identify whether parking spots are restricted to five minutes or two hours.

Drivers will still be permitted to use the school parking lot to turn their vehicles around.

Maps, identifying the changes to parking and traffic safety, are available at connectnorthsaanich.ca/kelset-traffic-study.

The changes to on-street parking configuration and the addition of safety features will help address issues brought forward by residents and the school community, which have been captured in the District of North Saanich’s ḰELSET Traffic Safety Study.
